Beauty in the passing moment. (2022)

We go from day-to-day meeting the same people, saying the same things, and hitting the same alarm clock every morning (preferably to snooze) to the point where time just becomes another part of our existence.

For Solo Soprano and Piano

Duration: ca. 8:30

Program Note

We go from day-to-day meeting the same people, saying the same things, and hitting the same alarm clock every morning (preferably to snooze) to the point where time just becomes another part of our existence. Acknowledging this monotony has inspired a newfound sense of mindfulness in myself to simply pause, stop, and take in time as it passes. I chose to depict this perspective musically to convey how fleeting time truly is, since there are many things to be grateful for and to appreciate in life.

This piece, captured through a minimalist approach, incorporates voice while adding a spice to the genre, ensnaring the listener in a conscious and undisturbed trance of time. With a collective audience engaging in this music’s natural unraveling, these slow oscillating harmonic progressions aim to quiet the movements of time while inviting the listener to let go and breathe in life as it is in the passing moment.

Dedicatory & Acknowledgments

Dedicated to the advocation of mindfulness in an attempt to provide intentional attention to the present amidst certain monotony.

A special thank-you to soprano singer Bree Bell, who’s collaboration and heartfelt investment in this new work has inspired much sustenance in my compositional craft. I am so grateful for your strong-willed and infectiously joyous personality, and I have valued immensely the compelling sense of musicality that you have poured into the premiere of this new piece.
