Program Note
Deadlight Pharos (2025) tells the story of a small boat drifting toward an unseen shore, warned by the steady glow of a nearby lighthouse. The boat, unaware of the danger, crashes against the rocks, and its fragments sink deep into the sea. The boat represents human struggle and addiction, while the lighthouse embodies warnings, help, and clarity, as the crash marks a painful moment of reckoning.
Through flute, vibraphone, and euphonium, the music traces this pattern of loss, memory, and attempted renewal. Themes return altered, suggesting that even as we are drawn back into familiar patterns, we will try again to change. The work ends unresolved, as an inward reflection of our own efforts as humans to let go, learn, and try again.
